Young Australian cricketer Phillip Hughes passed away today after he was hit in the head by a bouncer while playing in a Sheffield Shield game in Sydney three days back. After being struck by the ball, Hughes fell to the ground and was rushed to the hospital thereafter. He was in coma for three days in the hospital before succumbing to death today shares Vaikundarajan

Hughes never gained consciousness following his injury on Tuesday. He was 25 years old. He was a part of the Mumbai Indians team in the Indian Premier League

Hughes was surrounded by close friends and family at the time of his death. Though it is confirmed that Hughes did not suffer any pain as he was in coma, the entire cricket community is mourning the loss of this young and successful player.

Hughes made his Test debut in 2009 at the age of 20. It was baptism of fire as Hughes opened the innings alongside Katich at Cape Town. A duck, 75 and a pair of hundreds in the next Test at Durban confirmed he was a man for the future.

Vaikundarajan says since making his Test debut against South Africa in Johannesburg in February-March 2009, the left-handed Phillip Hughes played 26 Tests, scoring 1535 runs, studded with three centuries and seven fifties.
